Where to Sell Your Records in Montreal: How We Appraise Them

Got vinyl, CDs or cassettes gathering dust in the basement, an inherited collection, or just records you no longer play? At Freeson Rock, a record store on Mont-Royal Ave. in Montreal since 1988, we buy single records as well as large collections. You get paid in cash or store credit, with 20% more in store credit. Here's how it works and what affects the price we offer.

Appraisal in store, at your home, or drop-off on the North Shore

• A few records: bring them to the store at 1477 Mont-Royal Ave. East during opening hours. We appraise them on the spot.
• A large collection: we can come to your home to appraise it. Send Marc a list or photos by email at marc-philippelemieux@hotmail.ca, or call him at 438-404-5994 to book an appointment.
• On the North Shore? You can drop off your collection for appraisal at Addison Électronique, 1635 Le Corbusier Blvd., Laval (H7S 1Z3). Contact Marc before you go, then ask for Marc on site.

What affects the price

Every record is appraised individually. The main criteria:

• Condition of the record and the sleeve. We grade them separately using the collectors' scale (M, NM, VG+, VG, G). A scratch-free record that plays well is worth much more than a heavily worn copy. Full details in our grading guide.
• Rarity and demand. Some titles are easy to find, others have been sought after for years. The pressing matters too: an original pressing isn't always worth the same as a reissue.
• Genre. We specialize in metal and progressive rock, but we also buy rock, jazz, blues, soul, French-language music and more.

Before the appraisal: a few tips

• Keep records in their sleeves and carry them upright, packed snugly, so they don't warp.
• No need to clean them yourself with household products: we appraise them as they are.
• For a large collection, a list (artist, title) or a few photos help us give you an idea before the appointment.

What happens next?

The records we buy are cleaned, graded for record and sleeve, then put back on sale in our used vinyl section, in store and online. Your records find a new owner who will actually play them.
